Web Site Development

XIST recently finished the first iteration of a comunity oriented website. The project involved extensive stakeholder consultations and information architecture planning. XIST carried out an environmental scan of webb content management systems and selected Drupal.

Open-source Digital Library Technology Evaluation and Planning

Project: XIST conducted an environmental scan of open-source digital library technologies, developed a high-level development schedule and made recommendations to migrate a legacy database to a web-based digital library platform.

Onsite Strategic Planning and Web Management Consulting

Project: XIST placed a consultant onsite to provide full-time web planning, communications policy and web development services for a Government of Canada client. Under the direction of the client, the consultant developed policies for web based communications, developed a strategic plan for aligning the department web site with emerging communication priorities, and provided project management services to guide the development team through a transition period, until a new web master was hired full time on staff.

Information Architecuture Design

Project: XIST developed for a government organization the strategic plan and information architecture of a portal web site that promotes physical activity to Canadians. The work required:

  • design and execution of user needs assessment interviews with key stakeholders
  • extensive online research across three tiers of government web sites to identify similar content offerings and programs
  • development of recommendations for the new site's purpose, objectives, and design principles

Network File Shares Analysis

Project: XIST completed a project for a large government organization to review network file shares organization, develop a sustainable taxonomy and implementation strategy to migrate legacy content.

Information Management Strategic Planning

Project: XIST completed an assessment of information management processes for a multi-partner government agency to analyze its information management practices and technologies, establish information management priorities, and outline a way forward to improve its information management capabilities. Recommendations included potential development strategies to streamline the organization’s information management operations, control critical sets of data, and position it to better manage increasing workloads and program activities.

Project: XIST delivered a strategic IM plan for a national legal organization. The planning process involved wide-ranging stakeholder interviews, environmental scan, and assessment of current service and application offerings. The final report emphasized governance and application related issues.

Information Resources Management and Strategic Plan

Project: XIST worked in partnership with an Ottawa based content development and research company to deliver a strategic plan that outlined a realistic and viable multi-year strategic plan to manage information resources. The project included content analysis, business process analysis and user needs assessment.

Site Analysis and Information Architecuture Redesign

Project: For a federal organization, XIST completed a site review that included surveying users, reviewing departmental communications strategy, conducting stakeholder interviews, and analyzing site statistics. The outcome was the creation of a revised information architecture with content and services recommendations to reposition the site for emerging needs.
